Preparation for testing
During your consultation, Dr. Buch will discuss factors that could impact test results and provide instructions specific to your situation. Tips for getting the best quality of semen sample include:
- Tell the doctor about any medications or herbal supplements you are currently taking. You may be advised to pause hormone medications and supplements such as St. John’s wort prior to the test.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and recreational drugs for several days.
- Avoid ejaculation for one to three days.
Providing a sample
We respect and protect our patients’ privacy. During your consultation, Dr. Buch will discuss discreet options for collecting a semen sample, and you can choose whichever you are most comfortable with.
- At home – If you choose to attain a sample in the comfort and privacy of your own home, we will provide a sterile collection container. You will need to be sure the sample does not contact any foreign substances, and that it stays between body temperature and room temperature. An appointment is required to drop it off during our regular hours, and it must be delivered to our office within 60 minutes of collection.
- In office – You can also provide the sample here at the NTMIC Sperm Lab office. We have a private and comfortable collection room, with a secure lock so you can feel confident of your privacy.
